Filth Film starring James McAvoy by Jon Baird Studio Mao
The latest film adaptation of Irvine Welsh's work, Filth takes an unflinching eye to the life of an alcoholic, drug addled, careerist misanthrope. Although it is at times tonally uneven, overall what you have is a film that is half parts darkly hilarious and half disturbingly emotional, as such it very much lives up to its namesake.

Thank you, James McAvoy, cast and crew, and Irving Welsh for bringing to light the horrible necessity for so many people to shove mental illness under the rug. Yet, hiding mental illness means that the problem goes unresolved. Filth is a tragic-comedy (black comedy) that isn't about depravity, profanity, or obscenity of a rogue police officer.

The cast is excellent, but James McAvoy simply steals the show. The film is quite the mind-bender, do check it out.

Assisted by a great cast and good cinematography, Jon S. Baird crafted a magical realistic story with a greatly complex protagonist that will stick with you. I can heartily.
