Fact is, semiautomatic is better than bolt-action when militaries are sniping with the 7.62x51mm cartridge. The 7.62 NATO, in military dress, pushes a 175-grain bullet at about 2,675 fps out of the M24 and M40A3. Shorten the barrel to 16 inches like the LaRue OBR does and the velocity drops to around 2,550 fps.
